Abstract

Some of novel benzimidazole derivatives bearing different heterocyclic moieties such as 1,3,4-Oxadiazole ?1, 3,4 -Thiadiazole and 1,2,4- Triazole were prepared. The structure of the new compounds were elucidated by IR , 1 H, 13 CNMR,MS spectra and elemental analysis .Some of the new compounds were evaluated for invitro cytotoxic activity against breast carcinoma(MCF-7) and colon carcinoma (HCT-116) cell line. Some of the tested compounds exihibited moderate cytotoxic activity .The preliminary antimicrobial activity of all of the novel compounds were investigated against Gram-positive bacteria ( Staphylococcus aureus and Staphylococcus epidermidis ), Gram-negative bacteria ( Escherichia coli and Pseudomonas aerugnosa ) and fungi ( Candida albicans )and the majority of the tested compounds exihibited promising antimicrobial activity.
