Abstract

The 3 - acyl 2-(2' hydroxy-5-nitro phenyl)benzothiazoline (AHNPBT) is prepared by the condensation of 5-nitro salicylaldehyde with 2-aminothiophenol and the subsequent acylation of the same. The compound has been characterised by IR, 1 H, 13 C NMR, mass and single crystal XRD studies. The crystal structure of AHNPBT reveals the presence of intramolecular and intermolecular hydrogen bonding interactions. AHNPBT crystallises in the orthorhombic space group Pna2(1) . The XRD studies reveal that AHNPBT exists as R isomer.
