EFFECT OF GARLIC ON TOTAL ANTIOXIDANTS IN ALLOXAN INDUCED DIABETES MELLITUS RATS

Background and Objective: Diabetes mellitus is the single most common disorder across the globe. Although the metabolism of carbohydrates in diabetes is well characterized, the role of total antioxidants in diabetes is still to be investigated. Garlic has been used as a therapeutic agent and found to have hypoglycemic effect. In this study the role of garlic extract on total antioxidant level of diabetic and normal rats were investigated. Materials and Methods: The study was conducted the after the institutional ethical clearance. The present study involved four groups of six animals each. The total antioxidants were measured in the serum, lever and kidney by phosphomolybdenum method. Also the serum glucose level was measured.
