Abstract

This study was carried out to determine the effect of vitamin B12 on the liver function of male wistar albino rats infected with Trypanosnmabrucei brucei, 24 male Wistar albino rats were divided into 6 groups namely; Control , Trypanosome infected, Diamenazene treated, 40mcg vitaminB12, 60mcg vitaminB12, 80mcg vitaminB12,,the liver indicators such as alkaline phosphatase(ALP),aspartate aminotransferase(AST),alanine aminotransferase(ALT),total bilirubin and direct bilirubin were determined in the rats using kinetic method for ALP,AST and ALT and diazo method for total and direct bilirubin.the data was subjected to statistical analysis using SPSS vision 20.there was a significant increase(p<0.05) in the serum activities of alkaline phosphatase(ALP),aspartate aminotransferase(AST),alanine aminotransferase(ALT) and concentration of total bilirubin and direct bilirubinwith a mean value of (trypanosome infected 137.45
