Abstract

Tuberculosis (TB) is a potentially fatal contagious disease that can affect almost any part of the body but is mainly an infection of the lungs. It is caused by a bacterial microorganism, the tubercle bacillus or Mycobacterium tuberculosis. Although TB can be treated, cured, and can be prevented if persons at risk take certain drugs, scientists have never come close to wiping it out. Diagnosis still depends largely on sputum microscopy, which is unsuitable for a large number of patients. The efficacy of the BCG vaccine is limited. Major obstacle in the cure and prevention of tuberculosis is posed by the latent or persistent M. tuberculosis infection. This is due to the fact that most of the currently available drugs are ineffective against latent infection. Scientist are searching for new targets for mycobacterium tuberculosis disease through biological studies (Proteonomics, Bioinformatics) then Synthetic modification in existing drug and study of some naturally existing drug. This review is useful to study the disease tuberculosis, Bacillus Characteristics, Clinical aspect, drug resistance study, treatment and study of new drug target for mycobacterium tuberculosis.
